Second Class is the fourth year of primary school, typically accommodating children aged 7 to 8 years old. It continues to build on the foundational skills developed in earlier years and marks a progression toward more structured learning. Children follow a full school day, from 8:15 to 1.55pm

The curriculum includes twelve subject areas, taught through a thematic approach that helps connect learning across different topics. The three core subjects — English, Irish, and Mathematics — are taught daily, reinforcing key literacy and numeracy skills.

In Second Class there is a growing emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning. Teachers use a variety of interactive and engaging methods to support different learning styles and encourage creativity, communication, and collaboration.

Second Class serves as an important bridge between the early years and more advanced stages of primary education, supporting both academic and personal growth.
