Good afternoon to you all,
I hope that you are keeping well. Winter has truly set in over the past few weeks.
There is lots happening around our school at the moment, with more to come in the coming three weeks leading up to the Winter Holidays.
Winter Solstice Spiral and Disco
Our pupils are busy designing and painting their lanterns for our winter spiral. The spiral will be assembled by a group of parent volunteers in the final week of the term. On Thursday, 21st December our classes will visit the spiral and walk around it. Pupils attending the disco that night will get to see the spiral lit up with electric tealight candles in the lantern jars. It creates a magical atmosphere on the school grounds; I hope as many of you as possible can come to see it.
Football (4th to 6th class)
Over the past several months, our 4th class Aongus and I have been working to re-establish a school football team. We have received the support of our neighbours St Tiernan’s in this goal; they have kindly permitted us the use of their all-weather pitch once a week to permit training. There will be a 45-minute session each week for the boys and 45 minutes for the girls. We have the support of a coach from UCD Football and we are working towards participation in an FAI primary schools soccer competition in the new year.
Fire drill
The school held its Term 1 fire drill this week. The children were well prepared for the event by our staff and they responded brilliantly during the drill. Additional drills will be held in Term 2 and 3, which are pupils are not alerted to in advance.
New Board of Management
The school’s new Board of Management started its 4-year term today. The new chairperson is Majella O’Brien. A statement from our out-going chairperson Colette Kavanagh introducing Majella was sent to all families today. More information on the Board of Management can be found at this link.
6th class hoodies
Our two 6th class groups received their amazing new hoodies today at our weekly assembly. There was a great sense of excitement among the children (see photos below). Thanks to parents Ciara and Elaine for sorting and labelling the hoodies earlier in the week in preparation for the assembly. This was a huge help.
Winter Holidays
The last day of Term 1 will be Friday, 22nd December. The school will close at 11:30am for all pupils on this date. The school will re-open on Monday, 8th January 2024.
