At Ballinteer Educate Together National School, sport and physical activity are an integral part of school life. All classes from Junior Infants to Sixth take part in Physical Education twice a week, following a well-rounded curriculum across six strands: Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Outdoor and Adventure Activities, and Aquatics. Pupils in 1st and 2nd Class also enjoy swimming lessons at UCD Swimming Pool during the year. Our annual Sports Day in June is a much-loved event for the entire school community.
We proudly take part in a wide range of extra-curricular competitions throughout the year, including athletics at Santry Sports, where pupils from U10 onwards compete in events such as sprints, relays, long-distance races, the shot put, and the long jump. Our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams are a valued part of school life, training every Wednesday and representing the school in local competitions with great enthusiasm and teamwork.
We are fortunate to work with a number of experienced external coaches. Naomh Olaf’s GAA Club and Ballinteer St. John’s GAA Club regularly coach our junior classes, while rugby coaches also support skill development across the school. We are especially lucky to have Romonn Nelson, an accomplished athlete and coach, working with our 3rd and 4th Classes in basketball. These partnerships help to foster a love of sport and promote a healthy, active lifestyle among our pupils.
